"Saving a life can be just a click away" - was written in their application form to the World Summit Youth Award 2013.
Friends2Support.org, an Indian mobile application, was developed by Jayanth Justin and his team for Windows, iOS, Android and Java to help connecting blood donors and patients in a simple and unbureaucratic way.
The WSYA expert jury honored their social entrepreneurial spirit and effective use of Internet and Mobile to take action on the MDGs with this year's Youth Award in the category " Fight Poverty, Hunger and Disease!".
But this is not the only reason for Friend2Support.org to celebrate. 2013 marks as well the 8th anniversary of the organization and the WSYA team wishes to congratulate the team for their efforts to make the world a better place!
´Friendstosupport´ (F2S) is a non-profit organization founded in November 2005 by five friends from the region of Narasaraopet who had a clear idea on their minds: “Any person in need of blood, at any place in India, should be able to get it within minutes”. Pursuing to put an end to the increasing wastage of valuable blood collected at donations camps, the team became the first donors of the project hoping to set an example that would help to spread the word about the initiative.
Seven years later, the F2S website gets an average of 300 donors per day. With more than 1,000,000 voluntary donors registered, ´Friendstosupport´ seeks to expand the achievements of their website in the task of saving lives in India. With this Mobile Application, people can search for voluntary blood donors, call them directly, send them a text message, and even keep in touch with them on Twitter and Facebook. The website has saved more than 1,500,000 lives in the past seven years.
